Chapter 6

Dawn drove on the dark street of Shady Grove concentrating on the winding curves as she spoke with Wilson through her blue-tooth device making her way to her father and Karen’s home.

“Honey, I miss you too, so much. But I’m happy Autumn and I came home. I can’t even explain how messed up my mom is. With how we found her, I can’t be sure she isn’t suicidal or worse a threat to others.”

“You being there is what’s up then, babe. I would be lying if I didn’t say I miss you like crazy. But with all that is going on, I understand your moms need you right now. Anyway, I should be down there in a couple of weeks, I have a meeting with the Memphis Rays.” Dawn could not believe her ears; Wilson could hear her smile through the phone.

“Really! There’s a chance you could play here? I didn’t think it would be possible, you know with the way the lottery system works.”

“Yea, it’s supposed to be impossible, but I met with dad and my agent and told them Memphis is where I would be playing.”

“Can you do that, just say where you want to play?”

“I did that sweetheart, and now I have a meeting with the Rays to make sure everything is a good fit with me and what the team needs.”

“Well I guess being the prince of basketball has its benefits. I hope it works out. I would love to see you play at the FedExForum suited up in a Rays’ uniform.”

“You will baby girl, believe that I am doing this because I want to be able to look in the stands every home game and see your beautiful face. I love you Dawn. I know I have some issues to work through, but never doubt my love for you.”

“Wilson, I know that you love me, and I love you. I can’t wait to see you; I have pulled up in dad’s driveway, so I’ll have to talk to you soon.”

“Ok, sweetheart, talk to you soon.” Dawn disconnected and sat in her car reflecting on the phone call. She hadn’t counted on Wilson making Memphis his home base. The thought thrilled her, it sent tingles down her skin thinking of them being together again in the same city. Nevertheless, it wasn’t lost on her his declaration that she should be at every home game. Wilson definitely had control issues. With everything going on with her family, she felt like a lasso was being thrown to snatch away her freedom, putting her on a tightrope at an altitude that if she lost her balance would cause her demise.

“Twin-Sister, is here! Yeah!” Dawn’s heart was warmed by the announcement of her arrival by her three-year-old sister, Nikki. She scooped down to grab her little Diva while balancing her MK bag on her arm. “Hi little Diva, how are you feeling today?”

“I’m fine, mommy and daddy took me to the Whole Food store and I got all kinds of goodies I can eat.
